This
1.5 mile trail was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps through
oak-hickory forest in the western Boston Mountains. The workers
drank from the cold springs along the trail.
Devil’s
Den Trail features a variety of rock formations, scenic overlooks
and a waterfall before dropping down to beautiful Lee Creek.Plan
on wandering several hundred feet into Devil’s Den Cave,
the feature from which the park took its name, but the cave may
not be for the claustrophobic.
Another geologic
feature of Devil’s Den State Park worth exploring is Devil’s
Icebox, a series of cracks and fractures probably caused by a
major rock slide in the region. The trail takes a couple of hours.
Bring water, a camera and a flashlight for the cave.
